    Main Responsibilities

    • Must be able to operate a Truck unit in city traffic.
    • Perform trip inspections on equipment operated and loaded, ensuring safety and road worthiness.

    • Perform pre-trip vehicle inspection to ensure mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order.

    Technical Skills

    Compensation Data

    The anticipated hourly wage for this position is $43.88/hr. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

    Job Description

    Salary: $29.16 – $29.66

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Responsible to the Roads Foreman for working as a labourer and/or flagman on summer and winter maintenance activities. Also involves the operation of tractors with attachments, trucks for snow plowing, sanding and general summer use, rollers, chainsaws, compressors and other designated equipment requiring special skills.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

    1. Work independently or in larger groups to assist with completion of road maintenance tasks involving shoveling, raking, digging, sweeping, etc.

    2. Assist with the completion of various activities including platform maintenance (including cold mix patching and power sweeping), roadside maintenance (including grass cutting and shoulder grading), traffic maintenance (including signage repairs, line painting), storm water management (including ditching and catch basin repairs) and winter maintenance (including plowing, sanding and patrolling).

    3. Drive a variety of vehicles from smaller utility trucks to large dump trucks as required.

    4. Drive large combination snow plow/sander trucks in winter months for completion of winter road maintenance activities.

    5. Complete minor repairs on all vehicles and equipment, report major equipment and vehicle defects to Foreman and assist with equipment repair as required.

    6. Complete all documents as required including work orders, inventory reports and equipment records.

    7. Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.

    8. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

    9. Perform other duties assigned.

    EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

    • Grade 12 or Grade 12 equivalence diploma.
    • Must possess a valid DZ license, AZ license is preferred.
    • Ability to work without supervision and to make decisions.
    • Able to communicate diplomatically with the public on County roads.

    EXPERIENCE

    • Related experience as a truck driver, light equipment operator, or skilled labourer in either construction or maintenance of roads,
    • Experience in maintenance of roads is preferred.

    EFFORT

    • Visual and mental effort required when operating equipment for long periods of time, must be aware of surroundings.

    Job Description:


    Here is what an ordinary day of work might look like:

    • Perform duties to prepare railcars for shipment such as: opening and closing railcar doors, setting bridge plates, blowing trash out of railcars, chocking vehicles, chock replacement.
    • Load and unload vehicles onto railcars in compliance with company quality standards.
    • Ensure vehicles are spotted according to customer standards within the rail car.
    • Ensure vehicles are properly spaced within the rail and secure vehicles according to customer standards onto outbound railcars.
    • May be required to perform repairs or maintenance on safety equipment and rail cars.
    • Perform maintenance on buck loader/ramps: including but not limited to lubing the railcars, graphite door tracks, and other moving mechanical parts, etc.
    • Perform monthly inspections on bridge plates and paint bridge plates as needed.
    • Perform other tasks necessary to maintain the rail yard, such as, picking-up trash, and broken chocks. etc.

    Job Requirements:

    This Role is a Great Fit If You Have

    • Minimum Grade 12 education
    • Have a valid BC Class 5 (Not L/N) driver’s license (a MUST) and a good driving record which can be obtained from ICBC.
    • Be able to proficiently drive vehicles with manual AND automatic transmissions.
    • Physical requirements: frequent walking, bending, reaching, crouching, balancing, and climbing ladders (at heights of 20 feet), pushing, pulling, and lifting (up to 60 lbs.); also requires periods in confined spaces with low light
